Folksy fun Wednesday! Okay, sorry this is so late-coming, as Tara introduced me to this song at Cake Shop on Sunday evening. It’s called “Chinese Children” by Devendra Banhart. Tara knew I would love it because it’s all about having little Asian babies, which is really my only life goal. Anyways, neither Tara or I knew much about this offbeat dude, so I did a little research and let me tell you: We would totally be friends with him, in all his quirky glory. He was born in Texas, raised in Venezuela, and then moved to California. While living in the Castro, he attended the San Francisco Art Institute, but dropped out to start his music career. His first gig was at a gay wedding in the city.
A couple of other fun facts: His song “Lover” was featured in Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist (in which he also made a cameo) and he recently remixed the Phoenix song “Rome.”
Anyways, his new album drops on October 27. Could be worth checking out live if the price is right.
